I believe they are referring to a slide as used in mainly Country and
Blues guitar. It it a cylindrical object that is worn on a finger of the
fretting hand (almost always left), and slid along the strings to give a
smooth bend in tone. Usually made of glass, ceramic, or metal.
There is even a CD entitled "Slide Rule" by Metropolitan :)
