Subject: Slide rule sighting: "Good Eats"
On the Food Network yesterday, 27 March, at 7:00PM PST, the "Good
Eats" program was about rice. At one point, the host, Alton Brown,
said that the old standard of two cups water for each cup of rice was
inaccurate, and it wasn't a constant ratio anyway. One cup of rice
just needs 1 1/2 cup of water, 2 cups rice takes 2 3/4 cups water,
and 3 cups rice needs just 3 1/2 cups water. Then he reached into a
drawer, pulled out a slide rule and said, "If you had a slide rule,
and knew how to use it, then you could come up with a formula...".

It was a 10-inch duplex rule (white), about the size of a 4081-3, but
I couldn't make out any details.

So how about it? Can you come up with a formula?
